Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Expressive (the "Service"), operated by Expressive Health, Inc. ("Expressive," "we," "us"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Effective 2026-07-06. Last updated 2026-07-06.
1. What Expressive is (and is not)
Expressive is an educational research platform. We take a raw genetic data file that you already own (for example, an export from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, or a clinical VCF), match the variants it contains against publicly available research catalogues (PubMed, the NHGRI-EBI GWAS Catalog, ClinVar, PharmGKB, and similar sources), and present a plain-English summary that cites the underlying studies.
Expressive is not a medical device. Expressive is not a clinical laboratory. We do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Nothing shown to you on the Service is medical advice, and no relationship of doctor and patient is created by your use of it. If you want to act on anything you read here, you must consult a qualified healthcare provider.
2. Eligibility
To use the Service you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have the legal authority to agree to these Terms.
- Reside in a jurisdiction where the Service is available. We currently offer the Service to users in the United States only. If you are outside the United States you may still create an account to explore the public research pages, but uploads and paid features are unavailable.
3. Your account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for every action taken through your account. You must give us a working email address at signup and verify it before uploads become possible. You may not share, transfer, or sell your account. If you believe your account has been used without your permission, tell us at [email protected] right away.
4. Private beta and upload waitlist
Uploads are currently gated by a per-account approval step. Creating an account and verifying your email are open to everyone, but the ability to submit a raw genetic file is off by default and turned on by an operator once your account has cleared our beta waitlist. We give no guaranteed timeline for that step, and we may pause, throttle, or decline the upload feature for any account at our sole discretion during the beta period. Any paid feature you subscribe to while your upload is still gated will not begin its billing cycle until the upload is enabled, unless you choose to start it earlier.
5. Your genetic data
Your genome stays yours. You own your raw genetic data. When you upload a file, we extract the variant calls, discard the raw source file, and store only the variant data plus any reports we generate. We describe the specifics in the Privacy Policy.
To operate the Service on your behalf, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, royalty-free license to process, store, and display your variant data solely so we can run the Service for you. This license exists only for as long as your account exists. We do not sell, share, or license your variant data to third parties, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train any model. See the Privacy Policy for the enforceable list.
You may request export or deletion of your data at any time. Deletion removes the variant rows, the reports, and the account. Some records may persist in encrypted backups until those backups are rotated out on our normal schedule, and we retain the minimum records the law requires us to keep.
6. No medical advice, no diagnostic use
Every piece of interpretation on the Service is anchored to published research and is provided for education. We hedge where the research hedges, and we do not report a variant when the evidence is too thin to describe faithfully. Even so, the Service:
- Does not diagnose, treat, cure, monitor, or prevent any disease.
- Does not replace a physician, genetic counsellor, pharmacist, or laboratory.
- Is not intended for use as a basis for clinical decisions.
- May contain errors, omissions, or interpretations that later research updates or contradicts. Genetics is a moving target.
If a result on the Service surprises you or concerns you, talk to a qualified healthcare provider before you change any diet, supplement, medication, activity, or other health-related behaviour. Do not stop taking a prescribed medication because of anything you read here.
7. Payments and subscriptions
Some features require a paid subscription. We process subscription payments on-chain in USDC on Base. When you subscribe:
- You authorize the on-chain transfer of the stated subscription amount to the Expressive treasury address that appears at checkout.
- Your subscription runs for the term shown at checkout and ends at the end of that term unless you renew.
- On-chain payments are final. We do not refund partial months. If you believe you were charged in error, email [email protected] and we will review the transaction hash.
- Cancellation stops future renewals but does not un-do the current term.
- We may change subscription pricing on 30 days' notice. Existing paid terms are honoured at the price you paid.
8. Prohibited uses
You agree not to, and not to encourage or permit anyone to:
- Upload genetic data that is not your own or that you do not have permission to submit.
- Attempt to re-identify any third party from data on the Service.
- Scrape, mirror, or bulk-export our research corpus, page templates, or reports except through interfaces we explicitly provide.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code, models, or training data underlying the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly allows despite this restriction.
- Interfere with the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' access to it.
- Use the Service to make clinical decisions, provide clinical care, or hold Expressive out as a source of medical advice.
- Use the Service in a way that violates any applicable law or the rights of any person.
9. Third-party sources
We link to and cite public research databases including PubMed, the NHGRI-EBI GWAS Catalog, ClinVar, PharmGKB, GTEx, dbSNP, and the underlying studies they reference. Those sources are governed by their own terms and remain the responsibility of the organisations that publish them. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of third-party sources we link to.
10. Intellectual property
Except for the variant data you contribute, all content on the Service, including the compiled research corpus, page templates, reports, code, and brand marks, is the property of Expressive Health, Inc. or its licensors, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers those rights to you. You may share individual variant pages you land on for personal, non- commercial reading.
11. Termination
You may close your account at any time from the Settings page or by emailing [email protected]. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you breach these Terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if we discontinue the Service. On termination the license in Section 5 ends and we delete your variant data on our normal schedule, subject to legal retention requirements.
12. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any result you read here is accurate, complete, or current. You use the Service at your own risk.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will Expressive Health, Inc., its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, agents, suppliers, or licensors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or one hundred United States dollars.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages. In those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Expressive Health, Inc. and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms, your use of the Service, or your violation of any law or the rights of any person.
15. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You and Expressive agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute not subject to arbitration under Section 16.
16. Arbitration and class action waiver
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will take place in Delaware or another mutually agreed venue, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Class action waiver. You and Expressive agree that each may bring claims against the other only on an individual basis, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of representative proceeding.
Opt out. You may opt out of this arbitration provision by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Include your account email and the words "arbitration opt-out" in your message.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change we will post the updated Terms at this URL and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the change materially affects your rights, we will give you at least 30 days' notice, either by email or via an in-product notice, before the change takes effect. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept an update, you must stop using the Service and may close your account.
18. Miscellaneous
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Expressive regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest of these Terms remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent; we may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
