Dyslipidaemia-Genotype Interactions with Nutrient Intake and Cerebro-Cardiovascular Disease - Unknown journal (n.d.) · Unknown authors · PubMed 35884923
ABSTRACT: A comprehensive understanding of gene-diet interactions is necessary to establish proper dietary guidelines to prevent and manage cardio-cerebrovascular disease (CCD). We investigated the role of genetic variants associated with dyslipidaemia (DL) and their interactions with macro-nutrients for cardiovascular disease using a large-scale genome-wide association study of Korean adults. A total of 58,701 participants from a Korean genome and epidemiology study were included. Their dietary intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. Dyslipidaemia was defined as total cholesterol (TCHL) ≥ 240 mg/dL, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) < 40 mg/dL, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) ≥ 160 mg/dL, triglycerides (TG) ≥ 200 mg/dL, or dyslipidaemia history. Their nutrient intake wa

Lifestyle context
Concrete actions anchored to the cited research. We do not prescribe, we describe.
Diet
-
dietary fiber and plant sterols Moderate
Fiber and plant sterols reduce LDL cholesterol absorption; rs12439545 risk carriers have genetically elevated LDL
Target 25-30g fiber daily; 2g plant sterols daily
-
excess saturated fat intake Moderate
Saturated fat raises LDL cholesterol; rs12439545 carriers have baseline elevated LDL susceptibility
Keep saturated fat to <7% of total calories
Discuss with your doctor
-
cardiovascular risk assessment and statin consideration Moderate
rs12439545 is a genetic risk factor for elevated LDL cholesterol, a major cardiovascular disease risk factor
Discuss individual 10-year cardiovascular risk score and statin therapy indications
Exercise
-
regular aerobic exercise Moderate
Aerobic exercise reduces LDL cholesterol and improves cardiovascular function in those with genetic lipid predisposition
150 minutes moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week
Screening
-
lipid panel testing Moderate
rs12439545 elevates LDL cholesterol; regular monitoring tracks phenotype and response to interventions
Lipid panel every 1-2 years, or annually if LDL elevated
