Identification of susceptibility loci for cardiovascular disease in adults with hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia - Unknown journal (n.d.) · Unknown authors · PubMed 33632238
ABSTRACT: Background Hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), and dyslipidemia (DL) are well-known risk factors of cardiovascular disease (CVD), but not all patients develop CVDs. Studies have been limited investigating genetic risk of CVDs specific to individuals with metabolic diseases. This study aimed to identify disease-specific and/or common genetic loci associated with CVD susceptibility in chronic metabolic disease patients. Methods We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of a multiple case-control design with data from the City Cohort within Health EXAminees subcohort of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES_HEXA). KoGES_HEXA is a population-based prospective cohort of 173,357 urban Korean adults that had health examinations at medical centers. 42,393 pa

Lifestyle context
Concrete actions anchored to the cited research. We do not prescribe, we describe.
Diet
-
heart-healthy diet emphasizing lipid management Moderate
Dietary modifications reduce both lipid levels and stroke risk; relevant given dyslipidemia association
DASH or Mediterranean diet pattern; limit saturated fat and refined carbohydrates
Discuss with your doctor
-
individualized stroke prevention strategy Moderate
Increased ischemic stroke risk warrants evaluation for preventive therapies and risk factor management
Exercise
-
regular cardiovascular exercise Moderate
Aerobic exercise reduces ischemic stroke risk; variant carriers benefit from preventive optimization
150 minutes moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week
Screening
-
blood pressure monitoring Moderate
Hypertension is major modifiable risk factor for ischemic stroke; variant carriers have elevated baseline risk
Regular BP checks, target <130/80 mm Hg; discuss with doctor if consistently elevated
-
lipid panel and cardiovascular risk screening Moderate
Variant associates with ischemic stroke specifically in dyslipidemia context, indicating need for lipid surveillance
Annual lipid panel, or as recommended by cardiologist based on baseline values
